The School Board is the governing body of the school district. As such, the School Board has responsibility for the care, management, and control over the public schools in the school district. The Luverne Public School Board is comprised of 7 members elected by the residents of our district. The state gives the School Board the authority and responsibility to:
- Develop and adopt policies for the operation of the schools.
- Employ a superintendent to provide educational leadership for the district and to serve as its chief administrative officer.
- Provide materials, equipment, supplies and facilities to support an effective educational program.
- Express and represent the view of the school district community on educational issues.
- Provide equal educational opportunities for every child in accordance with state and federal statutes.
The School Board is elected to represent the taxpayer's interests in determining how our schools will be operated. The Board establishes policies on everything from curriculum to athletic programs, and these policies are carried out by the superintendent of schools. Comments from the public are welcome. The School Board will set aside thirty minutes before the 1st regular meeting each month for this purpose. Residents who wish to address the board should contact the Superintendent’s Office at 283-8088 prior to the meeting. Further information is available in Policy 204.02.1
