Last week, Luverne High School students embraced Wellness Week, an idea designed by the student council to promote health in all aspects of life.
We kicked off the week with “Mental Health Monday,” where students enjoyed free cookies made by Victoria Stearns, each bearing the message “you matter.” Students also watched a special segment on CTV, the LHS student-produced weekly newscast, about the importance of mental health and the resources available locally.
Tuesday was dedicated to community health and the Veterans Day program. Students proudly wore their class colors and participated in a food drive competition, with the freshman class leading in donations.
Wednesday focused on physical health, with Sanford Health providing delicious yogurt parfaits during lunch. Students also had the option to enjoy a wellness walk or play basketball during Flex Time.
Thursday highlighted nutritional health, as Functional Nutrition offered smoothie bowls, reminding us of the importance of good nutrition.
Friday concluded the week with Social Health Day, featuring the annual Play It Forward tournament. Grades formed teams to compete in a volleyball tournament, raising funds for a good cause. The junior class team, “Tactical Timeout,” were the 2025 champions. This year, the tournament raised around $700 for the Luverne Backpack Program.
Before the championship games, we were inspired by guest speaker Terrence Talley, who shared a powerful message through music, stories, and humor, encouraging us to persevere and stay strong, saying, “Don’t give up.”
Thank you to everyone who contributed to the success of Wellness Week!
